The late 1940s and 1950s were a strange time in America ? as this collection of educational DVD clips certainly demonstrates. World War II had just ended and parents were moving into suburbia and getting back to the daily grind of raising a family. The problem they encountered is that for years, teenagers had been treated almost like adults ? because they faced going off to war at a young age. Most of their fathers had also been absent due to the war, so for a long time teens had limited supervision. Now with peacetime prosperity all of that was set to change. Teens were considered children again and were expected to both obey their parents but also conduct themselves with maturity. The films on this DVD are the government?s attempt to give parents a helping hand. They address such diverse topics as how to handle an after-school job and the perils of gossip. Some of the clips are unintentionally campy and funny, while others give a real slice of history. In this! day and age it?s really hard to imagine a time when proper manners and procrastination were a parent?s biggest worries.
